Vision for Spirituality & Rule of Life
VISIÓN PARA LA ESPIRITUALIDAD Y NORMA DE VIDA
Lisa Engdahl
A concise, bilingual guide to Servant Partners’ spiritual vision and shared practices, designed to form people and teams living among and serving the urban poor.
Servant Partners’ Vision for Spirituality and Rule of Life is a timely and practical resource for teams, communities, and partners who want a common spirituality rooted in the way Jesus announces good news to the poor in Luke 4:18-19. The book lays out a practical, shared Rule of Life, with both corporate and personal commitments, centered on the four streams that shape Servant Partners’ movement:
Walking by the Spirit (our relationship with Jesus)
Proclaiming the Gospel to the Poor (communicating the Gospel)
Breaking the Chains of Oppression (seeking justice)
Living the Jubilee Sabbath (God’s rest and restoration)
“We meet God not only in retreats, but also in the daily struggles of life in a marginalized community.”
Inside you’ll find:
The four streams of spirituality (Luke 4:18–19)
A shared Rule of Life (daily / weekly / monthly rhythms)
Corporate commitments and personal practices
A flexible framework (not a legalistic checklist)

Lisa’s Story
Lisa Engdahl has been a longtime leader in urban poor incarnational ministry, Christian leadership development, prayer ministry, and community organizing. For the past 25 years, she has lived and served in an under-resourced community in the Greater Los Angeles area with her husband, Derek, and daughter, Natalia. During that time, she has served as Co-General Director for Servant Partners, founding president of the environmental justice organization Clean&Green Pomona, and executive staff for the recently established international organization, Global Partnership for Urban Transformation.
In her role at Servant Partners, Lisa was instrumental in developing the organization’s Nine Signs framework for transforming communities and in reflecting on the role Christian spirituality plays in pursuing concrete, holistic change. She developed Servant Partners’ Vision for Spirituality and Rule of Life as a way to integrate the spiritual work of living and sharing the good news of Jesus with the practical works of justice and mercy. More than anything, she worked to shape this Rule of Life as a guide for anyone who needs it, to create space for a deeper connection with God in highly challenging contexts.
Walking by the Spirit, we create communities of Jesus’ followers that transform their urban poor communities.
